A Lot Can Change in a Week

Wow, what a week! It wouldn’t be an adventure if everything went exactly to plan, right?

With 2020 being a huge year of unknowns, ups and downs and changed plans; 2021 was looking to be a bit more predictable – or so we thought. Unfortunately, COVID had other plans. At the end of March, Brisbane experienced community transmission of the UK strain of COVID-19. This forced the city into lockdown while the rest of Australia watched with baited breath, ultimately closing borders to Queenslanders.

So, what did this mean for us?

After being on the road for just less than a week, we were forced to reevaluate every part of our itinerary – travel into Victoria, South Australia and Western Australia, ride start date, support crew arriving into Western Australia, and the onflow effects of shifts dates back. I’d be lying if I said there were no tears and worries that this dream had ended before it even had the opportunity to properly start. We took inventory of how we felt and what we wanted to accomplish on this adventure. With that in mind, we agreed on a good night’s sleep and to see what was to develop over the next 24-48 hours and then adjust our plans – but the main point is that we weren’t going to give up.

We are currently in Victoria on the Great Ocean Road – OMG it is STUNNING! Every day state border restrictions are changing, so it’s just a game of wait and see. Keeping our fingers crossed for approved travel into SA and WA soon.
