Move over Craig, Port Fairy has stollen my heart!
To say Port Fairy is a cute town would be an understatement – It’s than cutest darn town I have EVER seen! From the sailboats in the harbor, historic homes lining nearly every street to the welcoming locals and stunning sunrises along the rail trail, you couldn’t really ask for much more. Victoria, you really know how to make a girl happy on her last day in the state!
We stayed at the Gardens Caravan Park, only a stone’s throw from the beach and a short ride over the bridge to the start of the Port Fairy-Warnambool Rail Trail. We began our last morning in Victoria with a ride out to Koroit, stopping MANY times for photos and to let the occasional dairy cow continue on their way to pasture. The station at Koroit had a few surprises, like finding the carved mile marker on the platform (175 miles, 33 chains, 21 links to Melbourne) and the plentiful apple trees from which I snaffled a snack for later.
Now don’t be fooled, we’re not spending all this time heading west training and having no fun. We are making sure to play tourist when we can. So before we scooted out of town, we enjoyed a stroll down the main street calling into the local butcher to top up our freezer and one last stop at the bakery for lunch and treats for the road – although I’m pretty sure they didn’t make it make to the car.
